Both lines interchange at Siam station — the central hub of the BTS network.

Operating Hours
- First train: Around 6:00am
- Last train: Around midnight (varies slightly by station)
- Frequency: Every 3–5 minutes during rush hour; every 5–8 minutes off-peak
- After midnight: BTS has stopped — use Grab, Bolt, or a metered taxi
BTS and Nightlife
The BTS closes at midnight, which means it is useful for getting to nightlife areas but you will need alternative transport home. Plan your return accordingly:
- Open the Grab or Bolt app before midnight to check availability and prices
- Demand for rides peaks at 2am (official closing time) — book 10–15 minutes before closing
- Surge pricing is common between 1:30–2:30am — accept it or wait 20 minutes
Nana → Asok (Soi Cowboy): BTS — 2 stops, ฿16, 5 minutes. Worth it over any other option.
Asok → Thong Lo (Sing Sing Theater area): BTS — 2 stops east, ฿16, 5 minutes.
Airport Rail Link (Suvarnabhumi)
The Airport Rail Link is a separate train line connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai station in central Bangkok. It is not part of the BTS but connects to it at Phaya Thai:
- Journey time: ~26 minutes, Suvarnabhumi to Phaya Thai
- Fare: ฿15–฿45 — far cheaper than Grab (which runs ฿250–฿400)
- Phaya Thai station connects to the BTS Sukhumvit Line — change here for Nana, Asok, and all Sukhumvit destinations
- From the airport: Follow signs inside the terminal for "City Line" / "Airport Rail Link" — on the basement level (B)
- Runs: 6am–midnight (same as BTS)
Tip: The Airport Rail Link is the fastest and cheapest way from Suvarnabhumi to Sukhumvit. Total cost with connecting Grab: ฿45–฿120 vs ฿300–฿450 for a direct Grab from the airport.
On Nut Station — Budget Accommodation Hub
BTS On Nut (two stops east of Asok) is worth knowing for budget stays:
- Much cheaper hotels and guesthouses than the Nana/Asok area
- Still on the Sukhumvit Line — 5–10 minutes to Nana or Asok by BTS
- Popular with long-stay travellers who want proximity to nightlife without paying Sukhumvit prices
Tips for Using the BTS
- Keep your ticket or Rabbit Card until you exit the gate — you need it to leave
- Machines accept ฿20 and ฿50 notes plus coins — carry small change for single tickets
- Some machines accept debit/credit cards — tap-to-pay (contactless) now works at most Bangkok BTS ticket gates and machines; useful if short of coins
- Stand on the left on escalators; right side is for walking
- Priority seating (marked in pink) is for monks, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with disabilities
- The trains are air-conditioned and very cold — useful in Bangkok's heat; bring a thin layer at night
BTS vs MRT vs Grab
| Option | Best For | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| BTS Skytrain | Sukhumvit to Silom; Nana to Asok; before midnight | ฿16–฿59 |
| MRT Subway | Soi Cowboy (Sukhumvit MRT station); Chatuchak area | ฿17–฿70 |
| Grab / Bolt | After midnight; off-BTS areas like RCA; door-to-door | ฿60–฿250 |
| Metered taxi | Longer journeys; airport runs; when surge pricing is high | ฿80–฿400 (insist on meter) |
