About Soi Cowboy
Soi Cowboy — one of Bangkok's most famous bar streets, lit up at night
Soi Cowboy runs between Sukhumvit Soi 21 (Asok) and Soi 23 in central Bangkok. Unlike Nana Plaza (a complex) or Patpong (a night market), Soi Cowboy is simply a street — bars line both sides from one end to the other, and you walk the length of it browsing before deciding where to stop.
The strip is named after T.G. "Cowboy" Edwards, an American who opened the first bar here in the 1970s. It is one of the most photogenic nightlife streets in Asia, especially from around 9pm when all the neon signs are lit.

FAQ: Soi Cowboy
What is Soi Cowboy?
Soi Cowboy is a short street between Sukhumvit Soi 21 and Soi 23 lined with around 40 agogo bars. It is one of the three main adult entertainment strips in Bangkok alongside Nana Plaza and Patpong. The strip is around 150 metres long and easy to walk end-to-end in under 5 minutes.
How much does Soi Cowboy cost?
Beer runs ฿120–฿150. Lady drinks are ฿180–฿260. Bar fines for short time are ฿800–฿1,200 (paid to the bar). The girls own fee is negotiated separately — typically ฿1,500–฿2,500 for short time. Budget ฿1,200–฿2,000 for drinks without bar fines.
Is Soi Cowboy better than Nana Plaza?
They have different atmospheres. Soi Cowboy is an open street with bars on both sides — more of a bar crawl feel. Nana Plaza is an enclosed 3-floor complex — easier to compare many bars in one place. Soi Cowboy is generally considered slightly more relaxed; Nana Plaza is larger and more tourist-heavy. Prices are similar at both.
What time is Soi Cowboy at its best?
Bars open from around 7–8pm. Peak hours are 9:30pm–1am. The strip is very walkable and most fun when you can stroll and compare bars — that works best from around 9pm. Official closing time is 2am.
